Ho Chi Minh City to cooperate with Indonesia’s enterprises

In the visit trip to Indonesia from 21 to 24 August, Nguyen Thien Nhan, Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City’s Party Committee, and other City’s leaders met and worked with several ministries, sectors and enterprises in Indonesia to understand the economic development strategy of this country as well as to improve the cooperation between Indonesia and Ho Chi Minh City.

Corporation to resolve city development problems
Nguyen Thien Nhan said that the relationship between Vietnam and Indonesia has been improving continuously, presenting by the signing of two countries on the memo to push up the strategic relationship between two countries over 2019-2023 when President of Indonesia visited Vietnam in September 2018. Vietnam and Indonesia are now preparing for the ceremony to celebrate the ten-year relationship between two countries by 2023.
While working with Ministry of Planning and Development of Indonesia and The National Resilience Institute – NRI, Nguyen Thien Nhan said that Ho Chi Minh City has been facing many challenges like over burden transportation system, traffic jam, air pollution, water flooding, and the increase of seal level. This is a good chance for two countries to share the experiences.
Nguyen Thien Nhan suggested to establish a federation of big cities of regional countries like Indonesia, Vietnam and Philippines. This federation will focus to resolve the problems of transportation, environment and water flooding.
At the meeting, Indonesia leaders also agreed to continue cooperating with Vietnam to resolve the urban development issues, especially problems of sea level increasing and degraded transportation. Two countries agreed to co-hand in building the strong human resource and long term strategy to develop the economy.
Previously, Nguyen Thien Nhan had chance to visit the projects which resolve the problems of water flooding and public transportation in Jakarta. Indonesia had invested in the dike system which is 120km long with total investment capital of USD55bn. This is an integrated project in which dikes play many functions, including water flooding protection, water storage, transportation support as well as residential areas.
In the trip to Indonesia, Nguyen Thien Nhan also met Luhut Binsar Pandjatan, the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs of Indonesia, to discuss about the experience and cooperation in resolving problems of climate change as well as developing the tourism industry of the two countries. Nguyen Thien Nhan suggested to expand the connections between Indonesia and Vietnam in term of airway and marine to help the two countries explore their full potential. Nguyen Thien Nhan invited Indonesia in co-hosting the forum on the sustainable city development of ASEAN.
Ho Chi Minh City commits to support enterprises
On the evening of 22 August, Ho Chi Minh City’s leaders held a forum to call for investments of Indonesia’s enterprises in Ho Chi Minh City. Tommy Manawan, Financial Director of Japfa Vietnam, said that the company has been operating in Vietnam for 24 years with 27 animal feed producing plants.
“We have been gradually growing in Vietnam. The company has been receiving many supports from Vietnam government while we operating there. Currently, the animal feed production of Japfa reaches 30,000ton/year. Vietnam has huge potential and Japfa will continue investing to expand the business”, said Tommy Manawan.
Go-Jek, the biggest startup of Indonesia which is valuated at USD 10bn, has also entered Vietnam market in 2018 with brand of GoViet. After one year of operation, GoViet has served over 100mn clients, a surge of 400% YoY.
Vo Van Hoan, Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City’s People Committee, said that the City believes that Indonesia’s investors will continue investing and support the growth of the City. In the coming time, Ho Chi Minh City will focus to implement the project to turn Ho Chi Minh City into a smart City and financial center of the region. Hence, Ho Chi Minh City will appreciate the cooperation between the City with other foreign strategic partners, including Indonesia investors.
“Ho Chi Minh will always create favorable conditions for enterprises, which operate in Ho Chi Minh City, to create benefit to both sides. Ho Chi Minh City commits to use the satisfaction of enterprise as the criteria to improve the business and investment climate of the City” said Nguyen Thien Nhan.
